WAKE SURFING!

My always-fun friends Courtney and Mel took me out surfing on the lake last week. It was amazing! If you've never seen it before, it goes like this: you have a special boat that you can weight to one side or another, creating a big enough wake to surf on. You use a towrope to get up out of the water and into the wake/wave, and then, once you're skilled enough, you can ditch the rope and just surf!

Ready position.

Up on the first time!

Where's the wave...?

Well THAT was fun!

Concentration.
Boat. Board. Brown hills.

Peter going ropeless.

Rockstar, Mel!

Cort showing us how it's done.

Doubles?! Bad-A.

Big pimpin'.
(Thanks for posing me, guys.)

It's been a rough few days.

New jobs.
New people.
New obstacles.
New schedules.

New places.
New paths.
New eyes.

My body is run down. Inside and out.

Today, for the first time in longer than I can remember, I came home from work, and took a bath.

A bath in a perfect tub with jacuzzi jets and dimmed lights and scented candles and Bon Iver on the sound system.

And I don't care if this isn't "new" enough for some of you. This is my game, and my rules.

And that bath felt amazing.

I am a new person. Every day I am new, but today, here, right now, I feel that newness exuding from my being.

World, here I am, new, just for you. Just for me.

Go Lions!

This weekend my guy's oldest participated in a cheerleading stunt camp. At the end, they competed in a number of different categories, and her team came out on top as Grand Champions! It was very exciting, and I was super impressed by what these kids could do. Below is the video of her team's award-winning performance, and just a sample of what I got to see.

I never thought I'd be rooting in the crowd at a cheerleading competition, but I enjoyed every minute of it.

Table Rock Trail

The trailhead is at the historic Idaho Penitentiary, which neighbors the Idaho Botanical Gardens.

The Norah Jones concert was at the botanical gardens that same night, and we passed crowds of poachers on the hillside (and were serenaded for the entire ascent and descent).

Our fair city.

We made it!

Chandlers' Famous 10-Minute Martini

Saturday evening we got dressed up and went to Chandlers to try this famous drink - one that is not shaken, nor stirred. Documentation below:
Combine indgredients, then submerge mixing glass in ice for at least ten minutes. Let convection do the work!

Remove chilled martini glasses from freezer.

Olives or with a twist?

The ice clusters onto the glass.

Almost ready...

And the other...

Looking good.

Tasty.

I'd been told about the Ten-Minute Martini.

I knew there was a backstory.

But I just had to see - and taste - for myself.

It. Was. Worth it.

Many thanks to our fabulous bartender who facilitated photographs of the entire process.

Meet the Family

On Friday night, a very important person in my life met some other important people in my life for the first time.

We ate good food, we drank good beer, played with the one-year-old, shared German chocolate.

That is all. I'd call it a success.

Dive Bar Bike Tour

  • 3 dive bars
  • 2 people
  • one beer per person at each pub
  • total cost, including tips: $21

This place was in the middle of a residential neighborhood, and looked like a converted double-wide. I regret not photographing it.

Dirty rag, lazy dogs, and colorful locals: no extra charge.

We happened upon karaoke night at Jim's Alibi!

Perhaps the best discovery of the night (rediscovery, actually) was that the best way to spend an evening is with good company and good conversation.
